Recycling theme in our school
The theme of the recycling period in our school:
Create something new out of something old instead of throwing it away!
1. Lesson in recycling: World as a dump?
Imagine a dump behind our school! What would be the most annoying issue?
What could we do not to maintain these views?
Homework: Study recycling at home
Research: How do families in our area sort and recycle domestic waste?
Everybody had to report the situation at home.
We made a chart on the chalkboard to see it all together.

2. Local Martta-organisation visited our school
We asked Kemin Martat to tell us how to make something new out of old stuff.
The Martha organization is a Finnish home economics organization, which was founded in 1899 to promote the quality and standard of life in the home. It also carries out cultural and civic education.

3. The exhibition
Pupils were asked to look around at home trying to find items having found a new life after they had almost been thrown away.
We got many great ideas and had an exhibition in the school library just to share the ideas.
4. Exchange the things you don't need!
Pupils from grades 1 to 6 were given a chance to bring toys, games and books they wouldn't need anymore.
If one brought an item, it was possible to get one as well.
Everyone gave away and got something new and interesting!
5. Tuikkujahti – Aluminiun candle cup chase
Our local waste company Perämeren Jätehuolto is organizing a contest for school classes to
collect aluminium candle cups.
The class that has collected most candle cups by the end of January 2013, is rewarded with 400 euros. They also get 1 cent per each cup.
Aluminium candle cups are valuable material for recycling. One cup weighs approximately 1
g. During the previous candle cup chase over 4 million cups were collected. From that amount it's possible to manufacture 266 000 soda cans or 26 small Buster boats!
5. A Lantern Potluck
Over 40 people; pupils, teachers and parents gathered to school one evening to prepare lanterns from old glass jars and to have a potluck. Everybody brought something to eat.

Terveisiä Wienistä!
Ohjelmantäyteinen viikonloppu alkaa olla täällä päässä ohitse ja jäljellä onkin pari päivää silkkaa työtä lähinnä vuodenvaihteen jälkeen alkavan Vesi ja energia -jakson suunnittelun parissa. Tarkastelemme myös toteutunutta jaksoa jätteiden lajittelua ja kierrätystä koskien.
Viikonloppuna olemme nähneet ihania joulutoreja sekä täällä Wienissä että lähellä sijaitsevissa pikkukaupungeissa. Täytyy todeta, että itävaltalaiset kollegat ovat osanneet suunnitella hyvän päiväjärjestyksen ja näyttää meille oman maansa parhaita puolia. Miljoonan euron jouluvalaistus ostoskadun yläpuolella on esteetikon taivas! Kaikkialla myydään joulukoristeita joka lähtöön, pienissä kojuissa tuoksuvat leivonnaiset ja joulujuomat, ihmiset vaeltelevat hymyssä suin tehden jouluostoksia.
