Shopping

• We went to local supermarket with money and shopping list.
• Then we choose vegetables : cucumber, tomatoes and red onion. One of made a different kind of salad. He wanted to eat only carrot and cucumber. 

• We read the shopping list. List was translated from english to finnish.

We are paying for shopping

• It was exciting to pay with real money. Luckily we had enough money with us. 

Here we make salad. It was fun and interesting.

• Luckily the recept was exact and well written. It was easy to follow it. 

It will soon be ready. Only mixing left!

• We are eating and salad was tasty. Oregano tasted nicely. Usually we don't use it in Greek Salad.    

We make this salad in Comenius style. It was part of studying maths and english. We also practised all day living skills, for example shopping, paying, food making, translating and reading recept.

This was pleasent alternative style to learn english and getting to know foreign food culture.

Suvaitsevaisuus ja auttaminen - Tolerance and assistance

During February and March, the 5th and 7-9th grade pupils explored the topic of tolerance and assistance through phenomenon-based learning. Phenomenon-based learning is a pedagogical approach, which is free from the subject boundaries and studies real-life phenomenons in their authentic context. This means that the pupils can freely choose how to study the topic and how to report their project. 

We started the project by watching a video about helping others and having a discussion about how anyone can help others in everyday situations. The pupils planned how and where to help and how to report the project. The format of the report could be almost anything; a photo, a video, a song, a dance...

The pupils had a couple of weeks time to finish their project and report. After this we got together to view the results. Many of the pupils helped at home by cleaning the house, taking the dog out, doing the dishes, taking the rubbish out and shoveling snow. The reports were made using photos, drawings, cartoons and writing. There were also a couple of videos and one pupil made a presentation about the benefits of helping others.

Tansseja

Alkuvuoden ensimmäinen projektitehtävä oli opettaa toisille jokin oman maan perinteinen tanssi. Suomessa on monia upeita kansantansseja. Päädyimme kuitenkin valitsemaan Letkiksen muille esiteltäväksi tanssiksi, koska sitä tanssittiin koko koulun voimin itsenäisyysjuhlassa. Onhan Letkis myös helposti opittavissa ja sitä voi tanssia suurellakin porukalla. Valmistimme opetusvideon, joka lähetettiin muille osallistujamaille. Vastaavasti saimme ohjeita muista maista. Comenius-vierailu Suomeen 14.-19.3.

Comenius-vierailua on valmisteltu syksystä asti ja viimeisinä päivinä ennen vieraiden saapumista koulua koristeltiin tohinalla.

Vieraat saapuivat perjantai-iltana Kemi-Tornion lentokentälle. Valmistimme tervetulokyltin, jotta vieraat eivät eksyisi ruuhkaisella lentoasemalla:)

Lauantaina suuntasimme Rovaniemelle, jossa ohjelmassa oli käynti Napapiirillä ja Joulupukin luona, Arktikumissa ja Pilkkeessä sekä Rovaniemen keskustassa.

Sunnuntaina oli ohjelmassa opastettu kävely Kemissä. Vieraat pääsivät myös kävelemään meren jäällä. Lumilinnasta oli valitettavasti jäljellä enää rauniot. Koordinaattorit sopivat projektikokouksessa, mitä loppukevään aikana tehdään. Päivän päätteeksi söimme ravintola Puistopaviljongissa.

Maanantaina vieraat pääsivät tutustumaan Hepolan kouluun. 3. luokan oppilaat esittivät aamulla kaksi laulua tervetulotilaisuudessa. 8. luokan Noora oli valmistanut komean esityksen suomalaisesta koulujärjestelmästä ja Hepolan koulusta. Yläkoulun oppilaat kierrättivät vieraita tutustumassa koulurakennukseen. Ja tietenkin vieraat saivat nauttia kuuluisaa suomalaista koululounasta!

Iltapäivällä vierailimme Kemin kaupungintalon panoraamakahviossa Jukka Vilènin vieraina ja sieltä suuntasimme Haaparannalle Marielundin kouluun.

Poikkesimme myös ihailemassa Kukkolankosken kuohuja.

Tiistaina aamupäivä kului koululla oppitunteja seuratessa ja urheillessa. Janne oppilaineen valmisti vieraille näytöslajeja Hepolan talviolympialaisista.

Iltapäivällä suuntasimme vierailulle Stora Enson paperitehtaalle.
